THE 850TH
History of the 850th
Situated in the heart of the 17th Starfleet Marine Brigade, the 850th was founded on providing a home for the Starfleet Marines of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming not currently assigned to one. Founded by Colonel Marcus Cupps, Marine Captain Phillip Cox and Second Lieutenant RuthAnne Cupps, the 850th now provides a avenue of service to marines both active and reserve in the One Seven and Starfleet International. The Shadow Guards are proud to be the vanguard of the 17th.

The 850th MEU (Starfleet Marine Expeditionary Unit) is a chapter of STARFLEET the International Star Trek Fan Association Inc. STARFLEET is an international Star Trek fan organization with chapters and members around the world. Our chapter is correspondence unit, meaning we operate only online. We conduct our meetings, business, and social interactions through various online-platforms such as Skype or Discord, both free services.
We have a social media presence, but most of our information is shared via our meetings or the website, so be sure to bookmark it on the latest news happening in the 850th. We have a PAO (Public Affairs Officer) and Communications Officer who work very hard to get our monthly newsletters to those interested. Be sure to drop a line to either of those departments if your interested in receiving those updates.

STARFLEET Marine Corps
The SFMC is a branch of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc. (SFI/STARFLEET) that falls under the purview of the Vice Commander STARFLEET. Having been in operation going on 30 years and having almost 900 members that STARFLEET Marine Corps is also the one of the largest continually operating military themed Star Trek groups in existence.
Members of the STARFLEET Marine Corps include veterans and active duty military as well as people who just prefer a ‘military flavor’ to their Star Trek fan activities. The SFMC is organized along traditional military lines, in the same manner as SFI. However, instead of being organized along Navy lines, and using terms such as ‘Ships’ or ‘Shuttles’, the SFMC uses ground force equivalents such as ‘Brigades’ or ‘Strike Groups’.

Brigade's are made up of MSG's (Marine Strike Groups) and MEU's (Marine Expeditionary Units) within multiple states. Brigade 17, for example, is made up of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

The Brigade is usually commanded by a Colonel (O-6) or Brigadier (0-7), although in some cases a Brigadier General may assume command. The Command Sergeant Major (E-9) is the principal non-commissioned officer assistant.
